Tour itinerary

Day 1 WELCOME TO LISBON
After your arrival, a transfer to one of the city’s fine hotels awaits. Once comfortably settled in, take some time to explore the neighborhood and discover what Lisbon has to offer. Later on that evening, join your fellow travelers and tour director for a welcome reception held at either the Real Palacio or Lisbon Marriott Hotel, or similar establishments.

Day 2 LISBON SIGHTSEEING
To begin our day, we take a leisurely walk through Baixa – the historic heart and commercial center of Lisbon. Afterwards, we make a stop at Belem to admire the iconic Belem Tower as well as the Discovery Monument. Our journey then leads us to the final destination: The Jeronimos Monastery that houses the Vasco de Gama tomb. Once our tour is completed, you will have free time to explore the streets of Lisbon on your own or join an optional Fado show with dinner in the evening.

Day 3 SINTRA, CABO DA ROCA, CASCAIS & ESTORIL
We’ll begin our half-day tour of the sights of Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Cascais, and Estoril early in the morning. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site is the historic centre of Sintra where we will visit the Sintra National Palace. After that, Cabo da Roca is next on our itinerary; the westernmost cape in Continental Europe. Then we’ll travel to a quaint fishing town; Cascais that has interesting museums, gorgeous gardens and an abundant fish market. Our last stop in before returning to Lisbon is Estoril which was originally a fishing town but now draws affluent visitors from all over with its many attractions. The evening will be yours to explore at leisure before retiring for the night to either Real Palacio hotel or Marriott Hotel Lisbon (or similar). Meals included: Breakfast only

Day 4 FATIMA
Once our breakfast was finished, our journey took us northwards out of Lisbon. Our first port of call was Obidos, a picture-perfect village situated atop a hill, defended by walls constructed in the fourteenth century. We paused here for a sample of cherry liquor before moving on to Nazare – a captivating seaside town popular among tourists. From there we made our way to the Monastery of Batalha; a Dominican Convent located nearby. Ultimately the day brought us to Fatima, an important site for Catholic pilgrims which houses many sacred sites and religious artifacts. Accommodation at Aurea or Estrela De Fátima in Fatima, or similar establishments were provided during this trip as well as meals throughout the day.

Day 5 COIMBRA
Our morning commences with a half-day tour of the historic city of Tomar. Here, we will take time to explore the Luso-Hebrew Museum and immerse ourselves into its fascinating history. From there, our journey continues towards Buçaco to uncover the beauty of Buçaco Forest and admire the exterior façade of Buçaco Palace.

Day 6 PORTO
Onwards to Aveiro and Costa Nova, where an orientation tour awaits us. UNESCO recognised the Douro Valley as a World Heritage Site and justly so. For centuries, the wines of this region have been transported downriver in flat-bottomed boats called “rabelos”. The wine is stored in barrels at cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia across the river from Porto. Post lunch with wine tasting, off to Porto! Meals: B, L. Accommodation at Eurostars Das Artes, Porto or similar.
