Day 1 Overnight Flight
From its Golden Age of spectacular castles to the timeless Roman ruins, Portugal beckons travelers with its lush groves of lemon and almond trees, whitewashed villages, and warm locals.
Day 2 Cascais, Portugal – Tour Begins
Greetings to the stunning Portuguese Riviera, the site of your stay over the next two nights. In Cascais and Monte Estoril, you will find palatial mansions that tell the story of how this region welcomed those exiled from Europe’s noble families. This evening, gather with your travel companions for a special welcome dinner.
Day 3 Cascais – Nazaré – Obidos – Cascais
Take a journey to the charming fishing town of Nazaré, bustling with activity as it gears up for its annual New Year festivities. Drawing visitors from all over Portugal, the festivities here are among the most beloved in the country. And just a short drive away lies Obidos – a city that looks like something out of a postcard. Its whitewashed houses sit snugly inside medieval walls that enclose this beautiful cityscape.
Day 4 Cascais – Lisbon – Funchal, Madeira
Experience the “Pearl of the Atlantic” with a trip to Madeira. Stop off at Funchal, and take a stroll down Rua de Santa Maria and admire its stunning murals. Afterwards, you can visit some of the old town’s historical attractions such as its 15th-century cathedral. The Botanical Garden of Madeira is also worth visiting, with an astonishing array of more than 2,500 plants from around the world for you to explore. And don’t forget to treat yourself to lunch at one of Funchal’s many restaurants!
Day 5 Funchal – Ponta de São Lourenço – New Year’s Eve Gala – Funchal
Experience the New Year’s Eve Gala like no other when you journey to Garajau. Feel the refreshing ocean air lightly stroke your skin and take in views of the Atlantic from Ponta de São Lourenço, Madeira’s easternmost point. Unwind and prepare for a luxurious evening as you witness one of its most impressive events – an extravagant New Year’s Eve Gala. Revel in a night to remember, illuminated by Madeira’s renowned fireworks display that will welcome in 2021 with a sparkle.
Day 6 Funchal
Start off the new year with a bang in Funchal! This wonderful city is the perfect place to take advantage of what this stunning island has to offer.
Day 7 Funchal – Câmara de Lobos – Porto Moniz – Funchal
Start your day in Câmara de Lobos, a small but vibrant fishing village from the 15th century. Make your way through lush banana plantations and rolling vineyards to reach Cabo Girão, the world’s second-highest cliff. Explore Porto Moniz for a glimpse of its gorgeous natural volcanic pools before journeying back to Funchal in time for an evening of espetada – a traditional dinner cooked over an open flame with folk dancers and music providing entertainment.
Day 8 Funchal – Lisbon – Belém – Lisbon
Prepare to be dazzled by one of Europe’s oldest cities – Lisbon. Visit the renowned Jerónimos Monastery (UNESCO) and Monument to the Discoveries, as well as Tower of Belém (UNESCO). When night falls, your Tour Manager will lead you on a mesmerizing walk downtown through 2 million Christmas lights. Stroll through magical Lisbon and take it all in at your own pace.
Day 9 Lisbon
Take control of your day and experience all that Lisbon has to offer. To make your evening extra special, opt for a night of traditional Fado performances, as recognized by UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, with delicious Portuguese cuisine and wine to match.
Day 10 Lisbon – Sintra – Lisbon
As you journey around Portugal, a must-see destination is the remarkable town of Sintra (UNESCO). Wander through the National Palace, once used as summer residence by Portuguese kings. On your way back towards Lisbon take time to appreciate the magnificence of Cabo da Roca – the westernmost point in continental Europe.
