Tour itinerary
Day 1 Seja bem-vindo!
As you arrive in Porto, a driver will greet you and take you to your accommodation. During your stay there, why not join your tour guide and other travelers for dinner at the local restaurant? This is an opportunity to get acquainted with each other over 3 nights in Vila Nova de Gaia/Porto.
Day 2 Capital of Culture Porto
Discover the wonders of this old commercial metropolis on a guided city tour. Marvel at the winding streets of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, admire the majestic Stock Exchange Palace, take an outside visit to see the old cathedral. Don’t forget about Clérigos Tower – an outside view awaits! Enjoy a taste of Portugal with a sample of port wine among wooden barrels in a cellar. Later on, take a 45-minute boat ride along Douro River and finish off your day by exploring on your own. Make sure you stop for a drink in one of the traditional pubs close to your hotel – enjoy your evening! (F)
Day 3 Minho – province rich in tradition and home of the “Vinho Verde”.
To start the day, you will take a journey to the beautiful city of Braga. The history of this sacred place is evident in its many ancient buildings. A must-see landmark is Bom Jesus do Monte, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and consists of 14 small chapels memorializing Christ’s Passion. Next, head over to Guimarães, also an UNESCO World Heritage Site and known as the birthplace of Portugal. Here you can enjoy wandering their quaint alleys and checking out Nossa Senhora da Oliveira convent church as well as the Palace of Dukes of Braganca. And lastly, be sure to visit a local delicatessen where you can savor on some locally produced vinho verde – a refreshing young wine only made in the green portions of Portugal. During your drive along the Douro Valley you will enjoy the enchanting view over the beautiful landscape of green vineyards from Mesão Frio to Vila Real. Afterwards, you will visit the dreamy gardens of the impressive Mateus Palace near Vila Real. (F)
Day 4 Old university town Coimbra
Exploring the streets of Coimbra, you will be overwhelmed by its age-old ambiance. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to Portugal’s oldest university and all the students in traditional black suits and capes. Embrace the vibrant atmosphere as you wander through old town and enjoy the local restaurants. Spend one glorious night in this charming city for an unforgettable experience!
Day 5 Tomar, Batalha Monastery and important pilgrimage site of Fátima
Nestled upon the mountain is a glorious landmark, the Tomar monastery of the Knights of Christ. This UNESCO World Heritage Site stands out due to its distinct blend of architectural styles: Portuguese Gothic and Manueline. Afterwards, travel to Batalha for an opportunity to explore one of the largest monasteries, known as a gem of Portugal’s Gothic style (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The final stop will be Fátima, renowned for being one of the largest centers for worshipping the Virgin Mary. It is said that she actually appeared here before three children during the early 20th century. Spend 1 night here on this spectacular journey! (F)
Day 6 In the footsteps of the monks

Day 7 The white city of Lisbon
At the entrance of the Tagus River, you will discover one of Europe’s historic trading cities. In the morning, you can explore its landmarks like Rossio Square, Marques de Pombal statue and the picturesque Alfama quarter. At noon, savor some traditional cuisine at a local eatery. Later, make your way to Miradouro de Santa Catarina for an incredible vista before you head to Belém’s seaside district. Delight in UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Jerónimos Monastery and Torre de Belém (exterior visits). Your day concludes with a stroll beneath Ponte 25 de Abril, the longest suspension bridge in Europe complete with a remarkable Christ statue view. (B/M)
Day 8 Individual Lisbon or medieval Évora (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Make the most of your day and journey to the enchanting city of Lisbon! You can opt for a delightful ride on the classic streetcar, letting you take in all its narrow streets. Or alternatively, why not take an excursion to Évora – Alentejo’s former capital. Here you will discover its UNESCO-listed old centre and the renowned Bone Chapel (which needs to be booked onsite). The price varies depending on headcount but it should be around €100 per person when there are 8 participants included.
Day 9 Subtropical Lisbon-Retreat of the Monarchs
Put on your walking shoes and explore the marvellous town of Sintra, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will get to peek into the Palacio da Vila – an illustrious estate that was once used as a summer residence for Portuguese kings. Continue your journey to Cabo da Roca, which is considered to be Europe’s westernmost point. Admire its captivating landscape with rugged terrain. Spend the rest of your day at leisure in Lisbon and wrap up your vacation with a glass of wine while you embrace the delightful Portuguese way of life one last time. (F)
Day 10 Adeus Portugal!
The hour of departure has come. I must make my way to Lisbon’s airport and board the plane bound for Germany. (F)
