Tour itinerary

Day 1 arrive in Lisbon
Following your arrival, transportation to the hotel will be provided. Once settled in, the rest of the day is yours to explore independently. Afterwards, join your tour director and companions for a welcome reception.

Day 2 in Lisbon
As the sun rises, we head for Baixa and Lisbon’s core of commerce. We then travel to Belem in order to see the incredible Belem Tower and the Monument of Discovery. From there we make our way to Jeronimos Monastery and pay homage to Vasco de Gama at his memorial tomb. As the day winds down, take a leisurely stroll through Lisbon’s mesmerizing streets on your own for a delightful experience. The evening is yours to enjoy!
Optional tour: Dinner with Fado show

Day 3 in Lisbon: Excursion to Sintra, Cabo Da Roca, Cascias, and Estoril
Today we are off on a private sightseeing tour that will take us through Sintra, Cascais, Estoril and Cabo da Roca. Our first stop is at the UNESCO World Heritage site designated Sintra National Palace. After exploring there, our next destination is Cabo da Roca, Europe’s most western cape. We then move to Cascais – a fishing town that offers interesting museums and lovely gardens – before visiting Estoril, a former fishing village which now attracts hordes of affluent travelers. By nightfall we will be back in Lisbon.

Day 4 to Fatima
Once we’d finished breakfast, it was time to journey north from Lisbon. Our first destination was Obidos – a pretty hamlet of white houses on a hill encircled by fourteenth century fortifications. We made a pitstop here for a tasting of cherry liquor before heading off to Nazara; an appealing tourist spot and quaint village situated along the Atlantic shoreline. Our next port of call was the Monastery of Batalha, a Dominican Convent, and our day culminated in Fatima; an important Catholic pilgrimage site abounding with sacred sites and religious artifacts.

Day 5 to Coimbra
At daybreak, we made our way to Tomar. Our expedition included a half-day exploration of the city and Luso-Hebrew Museum. We continued on to Buçaco Forest, where we had the opportunity to take an outdoor glimpse at Buçaco Palace. To finish off our journey, Coimbra was next on our list with a half day tour around the University and Library. (B)

Day 6 to Porto
Leaving Aveiro and Costa Nova behind, our next journey takes us to the Douro Valley. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this breathtaking region was historically connected to Porto via its rich production of wine. Flat-bottomed boats called “rabelos” were used to transport barrels of the local vintage downriver to Vila Nova de Gaia, located on the opposite side from Porto. After lunch with a wine tasting included in the Douro Valley, it’s time for us to head towards Porto. (B, L)

Day 7 in Porto
At the conclusion of our sightseeing tour in Porto, we make our way to one of the renowned wine cellars for a tasting. Afterwards, we embark upon an exhilarating boat excursion, one of the most splendid activities in this city. Later, guests are offered some free time before coming together with their peers and tour director for a farewell dinner that evening. (B, FD)

Day 8 depart Porto
Once we had eaten our morning meal, it was time to get going to the airport. (B)
