Tour itinerary

Day 2 Lisbon
Off you go to experience the sights of Lisbon! Catch a ride on one of the famous trams and explore the Old Town. Why not take a trip to the historical Jerónimos Monastery, which is now a World Heritage Site? Dating back to 1502, it was constructed by King Manuel I in order to commemorate Vasco da Gama’s journey to India during Portugal’s Age of Discovery. Make sure to join your travel companions for an enjoyable welcome dinner this evening.

Day 3 Lisbon, Sintra
The moment you spot Serra de Sintra, you’ll be mesmerized. Mountains spreading in every direction with each one more impressive than the next. Check out King Ferdinand II’s incredible Park and Palace of Pena before having some free time to explore Sintra at your own pace. Enjoy a meal when you are ready, then ride along the coast road back to Lisbon for your last night here. You can sample the local fare for dinner, a great way to close off this journey perfectly.

Day 4 Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto, Embark Ship
Explore Portugal’s countryside and then take in the sights of the centuries-old city of Coimbra, home to the renowned university. Afterwards, make your way to Porto for some sightseeing and lunch before boarding your river cruise with a welcoming dinner. As you enjoy dinner on board, marvel at the beautiful views from the ship as you sail along an illuminations tour around Porto.

Day 5 Porto
Today is the chance to do what strikes your fancy the most.

Day 6 Porto, Guimarães, Entre-Os-Rios
Begin your day with a trip to the city of Guimarães, where you can explore the evolution of medieval settlement and learn about its history. Afterwards, take a cruise along the Douro Valley until arriving at Entre-Os-Rios. Here, you have the opportunity to experience Quinta da Avelada, a long-standing family business that produces wine in the area since the 1870s. Stroll through their gardens before partaking in a tasting session which includes wine and cheese pairings.

Day 7 Régua
This morning, why not visit Régua and take advantage of the fantastic weather? While you’re there, a stop at the Douro Museum is in order. It’s an incredible way to learn more about this historic wine-producing area and its culture.

Day 8 Regua, Pinhão
When your adventure for the day is complete, why not keep exploring and take a journey through the majestic gorges of the Douro Valley to Pinhão.

Day 9 Pinhão
Why not visit Palacio de Mateus for a unique experience? Situated near Vila Real, this stunning palace was created in 1745 and provides an extraordinary glimpse into the world of Portuguese aristocracy. To make your trip even more special, why not book a Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board?

Day 10 Barca d’Alva
Exploring the historic town of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, visitors are sure to make a stop at the ruins of the old castle. Afterward, you can enjoy a tasty dinner back onboard your traveling home and ponder over Spain as your last night approaches.

Day 11 Barca d’Alva, Disembark Ship, Salamanca, Madrid
After setting sail from Barca d’Alva, your next stop is Salamanca, a city with more than two thousand years of history. Take the time to explore highlights such as the University of Salamanca and House of Shells before settling into your hotel for the night. Madrid awaits and you have the opportunity to enjoy it however you wish.

Day 12 Madrid
Before saying goodbye, why not explore Madrid and take the opportunity to sample some of its exquisite cuisine?

Day 13 Madrid
Today in Madrid is yours to shape as you wish.
