Day 2 Madrid to Bilbao
Our Iberian roadtrip is officially underway! Today, we are heading north in order to make a few stops, Burgos and Bilbao being two of them. Our first stop is Burgos, an incredibly picturesque medieval town that includes a French Gothic cathedral with intricate spires. Later on, we’ll arrive at Bilbao – notable for its recent surge in fame as an international cultural destination but never forgetting its easy-going vibes. There you will be able to visit Museo Guggenheim and observe all that this city has to offer from its architecture to its surroundings. To end off our night, there will be an included dinner at one of Bilbao’s local restaurants where you can experience some of their regional delicacies!

Day 3 Bilbao to Pamplona
Farewell Bilbao! It was a wonderful evening spent among your charming alleys and vibrant culture. Onwards and upwards to a beachy rendezvous – what could be better than taking an early morning dip at the Bay of Biscay? Off we go to San Sebastian, which looks like it has been taken straight from a postcard with its cobbled lanes leading down to pristine beaches. Enjoy a refreshing swim or spend time searching for the perfect souvenir before sitting down at one of the bars for some pinxtos (the basque word for tapas)! Finally, Pamplona awaits us; here we can take a tour through the well-maintained old city, including its majestic Gothic cathedral, before indulging ourselves with regional cuisine such as fresh trout and red peppers.

Day 4 Pamplona to Barcelona
This morning we take on another adventure, this time making our way to Zaragoza and the iconic city of Barcelona. After exploring Zaragoza’s casco (old town) we can feast on Spanish churros and witness the cathedral’s grandeur. On Contiki, even the pit stops are incredible! For two nights, you will be transported to Barcelona; exploring its Gothic Quarter & La Rambla district – an experience that will soon make you feel like a true local. With an insight into these must-do spots, you’ll master pronouncing C with a “tthh” like a pro by the time we move on!

Toledo, a hill town, houses centuries-old mosques and churches as well as a Gothic cathedral and the residence of El Greco – renown artist and architect from the Renaissance period. This location has witnessed sieges, revolutions and treason throughout its history. Today marks our return to Spain where only ten days ago our lives began changing for the better. This is where the 13th century University stands proudly, complete with its curiously futuristic gargoyles and indoors fresco depicting a painted sky. The majestic Cathedral is dotted with intricately carved stone shells that add an extra level of beauty to the area.
