Tour itinerary
Day 1 Lisbon, Portugal
Hit the ground running and get ready to be wowed by this beautiful city, overflowing with culture, yummy food, and tantalizing hills. Get settled in at the hostel then join your Tour Leader on a combo walking-driving tour that will take you through some of Lisbon’s biggest attractions. First is Belém where you can explore Jerónimos Monastery, Padrão dos Descobrimentos monument and their World Heritage-listed Belém Tower. Afterwards, step past the Monumento aos Restauradores and into Praça Dom Pedro IV before finally reaching Praça do Comércio for tonight’s dinner as part of the larger group.

Day 2 Lisbon
Make the most of your time in Lisbon. Get up early and hop onto the city’s iconic yellow 28 tram to get around. Explore Alfama, the oldest neighborhood, with its twists and turns of medieval lanes. Climb up São Jorge Castle for amazing views and learn a bit about Moorish culture while you’re there. Afterwards take a stroll through Mouraria for some eye-catching street art! Of course don’t forget to pick up some pastéis de nata – irresistible custard tarts – then sit in Botanical Gardens from which King João V sought out plants from all around the world to inhabit. For dinner grab something delicious at Time Out Market before capping off your day at one of Bairro Alto’s cozy wine bars or listening to traditional Fado music. This is an experience you’ll never forget!

Day 3 Lisbon to Porto via Sintra
Not many places come to mind when one thinks of Porto, but before we can make it there, let’s not forget the fairytale-like Sintra. During your free time here, explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town and witness breathtaking sights such as the Castle of the Moors and Pena Palace – just remember to book your tickets in advance! And don’t miss out a visit to Fábrica das Verdadeiras Queijadas da Sapa for some delicious queijadas (small pastries filled with goodness), having been around since 1756. Now onto Porto – and dinner is on us tonight, so get ready for a tasty meal that will give you enough energy for tomorrow.

Day 4 Porto
Let’s set out on a journey into Porto’s unique culture – tie up those running shoes and explore its historical streets, winding lanes and breathtaking port. Start at the majestic Port Cathedral, marvel at Palácio da Bolsa, feel blessed in San Francisco Church and be enchanted by the richly coloured tiles decorating San Bento Station. From there it’s up to you – take a cruise down the powerful Douro River or bask under the sun at Matosinhos Beach. Don’t forget to savour the local flavour with an optional port wine tasting experience before admiring stunning city views from one of its many rooftop bars.

Day 5 Porto to Madrid, Spain
Heading for the renowned city of Madrid, it’s time to explore the historic haunts of some of Spain’s most famous artists. Our knowledgeable Trip Leader will guide us on a tour around the capital, visiting iconic spots like the Royal Palace, Temple of Debod, Plaza Mayor and Mercado de San Miguel. Afterwards, enjoy an included dinner with your travel companions before heading out to experience Chueca’s vibrant nightlife.

Day 6 Madrid
It’s time to get out and explore the Spanish city of Madrid! The Royal Palace, home to one of Europe’s oldest monarchies, awaits your exploration. Stroll through the majestic Plaza Mayor and then wander down Calle de Cave Baja in search of tapas. Afterwards, pay a visit to Museo del Prado – which could be called Madrid’s version of the Louvre – before taking in the wondrous views from Palacio de Cibeles. Then head outside for a relaxing afternoon at El Retiro Park before treating yourself to some mouthwatering churros. For those who want an extra foodie treat, there is also an optional food tour available! Later on in the evening, take a journey over to Malasaña district for dinner at a buzzing bistro. This trendy neighbourhood boasts plenty of character and history along with its never ending supply of chocolate-covered churros…

Day 7 Madrid to San Sebastián via Segovia
Next stop: the beautiful city of Segovia. On the way there, we’ll take a detour to Valley of the Fallen to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the Spanish Civil War. Once we’re there, you don’t want to miss a chance to see the incredible Aqueduct, breathtaking Cathedral and majestic Alcázar de Segovia castle – all part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List! Make sure you grab some lunch at Bar Borda Berri – try their slow roasted beef that’s cooked to absolute perfection. After refueling, it’s time for us to move on towards our next destination: San Sebastián.

Day 8 San Sebastián
Embrace the beauty of this Basque hotspot and explore what it has to offer. DW, our Trip Leader will show you around and ensure you don’t miss out on any of the top spots. La Concha should be your first stop. Catch some waves with the locals or take a ride at one of the oldest theme parks in the world. For an incredible view, grab a cold beer and head up Urgull Hill for an unforgettable experience. When night falls, choose your pants wisely; you’re going to need lots of room to fit all those delicious pintxos from all around Old Town that await!

Day 9 San Sebastián to Barcelona via Zaragoza
On our last full day, we have to make the most of every moment. Zaragoza, one of Spain’s underrated cities, deserves a visit. Here we can admire the stunning Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar and explore remnants of Roman walls. After sampling local delicacies at Central Market, why not take a driving tour around Barcelona? Then it’s time to gather the gang for dinner and raise a glass of sangria as we celebrate this incredible journey together!
