Departing from Lisbon, we will head towards the amazing village of Sintra. Since every happy moment in Portugal starts with a coffee, pastry and a smile, this will be our first stop – you will enjoy some famous travesseiros (pillows), which are light puff pastry turned, rolled and folded seven times, then filled with delicious almond-and-egg-yolk cream and lightly dusted with sugar, or you can try the Sintra cheesecakes. The first references to the famous Sintra cheesecakes date back to the XIII century.
After you are full of energy, you will be ready to explore the unique Sintra village, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1995. You will have some free time to explore the village that the Romans named as the mountain of the moon. Just 5 minutes away from the village, you will then have some free time to visit one of the most remarkable and exceptional palaces in Sintra, the Quinta da Regaleira. The property consists of a romantic palace, chapel, a luxurious park and garden that features lakes, grottoes, wells, benches, fountains, and a vast array of exquisite constructions.
Next, it will be time to cross the mystic mountain of Sintra towards the sea, we will make a stop in one of the most picturesque small seaside towns, Azenhas do Mar. Then, you will enjoy lunchtime in a typical local restaurant (own expense). Here, you will taste true Portuguese food and learn how crazy we are about good food! Afterwards, we will head to the old town.
After this, it is time to leave the beautiful and magical Sintra Mountain in direction to Cascais, but we will make a stop midpoint in Cabo da Roca, which is a cape that forms the most western point of continental Europe. We will then visit Cascais, a former fishing village that gained fame as a resort for Portugal’s royal family in the late XIX century and early XX century. Nowadays, it is a popular vacation spot for both Portuguese and foreign tourists. During our stay here, we will stop in Boca do Inferno (Portuguese expression for Hell’s Mouth), a natural cavern located in the seaside cliffs; be scared!
Now is time to visit the village of Cascais. Try the most famous ice cream of Portugal, and possibly consider Santini’s Gelati the best ice cream in the world. It is truly a gift from the gods! Santini’s has been tantalizing Portuguese tongues for over 60 years. Finally, it is time to go back to our city that is always near the sea, Lisbon.
