Leave your Lisbon hotel and head northwest by bus to Queluz Palace in the UNESCO-listed town of Sintra. Known as the Portuguese Versailles, this 18th-century palace with its ornate gardens, statues and fountains was the last of the Europe’s rococo (late baroque) buildings. While exploring with your guide, admire its decorative art that adorns rooms like the elegant Throne Room and the Royal Bedroom with its distinctive domed ceiling.
If you selected the Tour plus Lunch option, stop for a 4-course meal at a restaurant in town. See the Itinerary for a sample menu. Alternatively, make use of a 1.5-hour break to eat at your own expense. Then, meet your guide to visit Pena Palace, a site that’s arguably the town’s most famous architectural icon. Created in the 1800s for King Ferdinand, the palace is similar in appearance to Bavaria’s Neuschwanstein Castle.
As you explore, your guide will point out drawbridges, ramparts and domes. Learn about the architectural styles of the building, and admire panoramic views of the forest from the windows.
After your tour of the building, head outside for a guided walk around the forest’s many paths, gardens, caves and fountains. Finally, return to central Lisbon by bus.

Great tour! I loved my tour guide. It was a nice trip to three palaces, all so different and beautiful.

This is by far the best tour of the area. With an outstanding guide José who was extremely knowledgeable and interesting to listen to, it made it for a fantastic experience to visit these palaces. Highly recommended and thank to our professional guide José!

had a great time! the guide was very friendly and gave us a lot of info while on the way to the palaces. Delivered us safely to our lunch spot in Sintra, which was delish by the way, and at the end, took a nice walk back down the road, all the while telling us about the different trees/plants brought to Sintra by the king. Really wonderful tour, time to walk on your own after each palace and very friendly guide/driver! Recommend highly!

Our tour guide Isabelle was knowledgeable, and kept the tour fascinating with extra history on the entire trip. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

The palace selection was excellent. All the palaces were different in their own way and very interesting to tour. The group was very friendly and about 1/2 of us signed up for lunch so it was a jolly crowd. Lunch was not good. I had meat but it was chewy and unflavorful. Other people told me the fish was good and that is what I should have ordered. Who knew! After that, we had about 15 minutes to shop in which I did not buy anything but it was fun to look around. I really enjoyed the tour except for the food.

this was operated by yellow bus/boat tours, they did a really good job! Susanna was an excellent tour guide and we felt so bad that it began pouring rain and yet we still continued on. She was very informative, humorous and very knowledgable about Portuguese history. We did not feel rushed, and got to see a lot more than what we had originally intended to see if we did the tours on our own. The food at the selected restaurant was fabulous and well worth it!
