Day 1 Arrival in Porto
Welcome to Porto!
Finally, upon your arrival to Porto, our guide will take you to your hotel. This is the perfect place to start exploring and getting acquainted with this charming city. You won’t be able to find words that can convey the enigmatic beauty of Porto. It’s something you just have to witness for yourself! Take time off today to get lost in its streets, sample its cuisine, explore its famous sightseeing spots and interact with the friendly locals. Your journey begins now!

Day 2 Bike from Porto to Furadouro

Your adventure begins!
Beginning from the iconic Dom Luís Bridge, your journey will provide a mesmerizing view of the Douro River. You are embarking on a second day of pleasant cycling across quiet roads near the ocean. Along your route you’ll traverse multiple beaches like Valadares, Francelos and Miramar, taking a path along the coastline. Even though swimming in the waters may be too chilly for some, these beaches are ideal spots to soak up some rays (weather permitting of course!). A must-see destination is Miramar Beach; home to the mysterious Capela do Senhor da Pedra perched atop a colossal boulder by the shoreline.

Day 3 Bike from Furadouro to Aveiro

Another fresh day by the sea!
Your journey will also take to some stunning pine tree forests and flat roads leading to the Ria de Aveiro. This shallow coastal lagoon is linked with the Atlantic Ocean, its mesotidal wetland boasting several branches making up various islands. After admiring these views, your destination arrives at São Jacinto’s dune system; a natural reserve of immense value that fosters many species of wildlife. Here is where taking a ferry will transport one to Portugal’s very own Venice, known as Aveiro.

Day 4 Bike from Aveiro to Praia de Mira
Discover the preserved traditions of Portugal.
Your journey from Aveiro will lead you through a landscape marked by ponds, where the extraction of salt is still done using ancient traditional techniques that have been passed down over the centuries. Eventually, you’ll find yourself at a dock overlooking the harbor and its surviving codfish boats. Making your way across the bridge, you’ll reach Barra Village which nestles between Ria and sea on a long sand dune. Later on in the day, you can witness Costa Nova’s iconic beach – famed for its ‘Palheiros’, brightly coloured striped houses unlike any other. With so many dazzling views throughout this unique experience, it makes for an unforgettable day out.

Day 5 Bike from Praia de Mira to Coimbra
Prepare yourself to discover Portugal’s medieval capital – Coimbra!
The journey to Coimbra begins along winding, gravel roads. Majestic villages and towns lead to the picturesque Mondego river, guiding you towards the city’s core. Once a Portuguese capital, Coimbra is rich in culture and history. Established in 1537, its University of Coimbra – Alta and Sofia traces its roots to the Royal Palace of Alcáçova. Nowadays visitors can admire numerous attractions such as the 12th-century Cathedral of Santa Cruz, 16th-century colleges, Joanine Library’s baroque decor or 18th-century Botanical Garden. Make sure to explore every corner of enchanting Coimbra!

Day 6 Bike from Coimbra to Anta (Maiorca)
Cycling through the history of Portugal.
Your Portuguese journey continues with breakfast in Coimbra! On this day, you’ll be exploring the Mondego River, Portugal’s longest river. As you ride along its banks, the imposing Montemor-o-Velho Castle will come into view – one of Portugal’s oldest fortifies and a symbol of Low Mondego during Medieval times. Don’t forget to try “espigas doces”, the cakes that are native to Montemor – it is truly an experience not to miss! Finally, your ride ends at Quinta D’Anta for a peaceful night of rest.

Day 7 Bike from Anta (Maiorca) to São Pedro de Moel
Once again meeting the grateful Atlantic sea!
Embark on a tour to São Pedro de Moel through the vast Atlantic cycling path and be enchanted by the scent of pine trees and bracing sea air. This journey will reward you with beautiful natural surroundings as well as unique cultural experiences. As you ride along, you’ll pass Pedrogão and Viera beach, two lovely areas where fishermen practice traditional methods of fishing till this day. Upon arriving in São Pedro de Moel, a picturesque seaside village, treat your palate to one of their renowned fish dishes to bask in an incredible culinary experience.

Day 8 Bike from São Pedro do Moel to Óbidos
Your journey to medieval enchantment awaits! Start the day with a traditional breakfast before heading off on an exciting ride along the coastline. Enjoy the stunning pine forests and picturesque beaches, then make your way to Nazaré, a vibrant fishing village where daily catches are still dried in the sun. Further down the coast is Foz do Arelho’s breathtaking bay, before you venture inland to visit Óbidos – one of Portugal’s most well-preserved castles. Embrace the middle ages as you explore this captivating town and take advantage of its unique tradition; don’t forget to sample some Ginja liqueur in its traditional dark chocolate cup!

Day 9 Bike from Óbidos to Peniche

Start your journey around Portugal with a delicious meal in the remarkable Coimbra city. Next, you will bike along the Mondego River – the longest river entirely within Portuguese boundaries. As you approach Montemor-o-Velho, an awe-inspiring castle can be seen. Regarded as one of the oldest castles in Portugal, it also served as Low Mondego’s essential fortification during Medieval days. Apart from its notable monuments and buildings, savour some ‘espigas doces’, which are local treats unique to Montemor. At day’s end, settle in at Quinta D’Anta for a soothing rest!

Day 10 Bike from Peniche to Ericeira

Set out on an incredible journey along the Portuguese coast! You’ll travel through lush valleys of limestone and vibrant green Mediterranean vegetation, passing small villages as you go. The well-worn path will take you to Ericeira – famous for being the ‘Portuguese Mecca of Surf’ – with its striking beaches and cliffs, all bordered by an azure ocean. Enjoy some free time here walking through the town’s quaint old centre, taking in the stunning views before sitting down for an unforgettable seafood dinner.

Day 11 Bike from Ericeira to Sintra

Today you will experience an amazing adventure in Sintra Natural Park and its surrounding hills. Kick-start your journey by visiting the Monserrate Palace, built in 1858 and home to splendid gardens. Then get ready to explore the village of Sintra, a UNESCO site! Don’t forget to take time out of your day to admire the iconic Moorish Castle from 8th century, as well as Pena Palace, featuring mesmerizing domes, towers, ramparts and walkways atop one of Sintra’s highest peaks. End the day with some cycling up and down the hills for an absolute thrill!

Day 12 Bike from Sintra to Cascais
Explore Cape Roca, the westernmost point in Continental Europe.
Wrapping up your cycling journey, you will head to the mystic hills of Sintra where you will witness the Franciscan Capuchos Convent. Here, the austere living of the Franciscan friars is still evident in this rock-lined structure built with cork. As you continue your ride towards the Atlantic ocean, marvel at Cape Roca; Continental Europe’s most western point. Enjoy breathtaking beaches that have been artistically sculpted by nature before transitioning to a scenic ride along the coast to arrive in picturesque Cascais.
